Sub Help

Ok, so right now i have a 2006 mercury mountaineer premier. My current setup is a factory touch nav, factory upgraded speakers, a 12" alpine type r (4ohm), alpine m650 amp. Currently i have 4 guage wires for it. I really want to change the sub situation. I was thinking about getting another type r 4 ohm, with a Hifonics BXi 1608D, then id wire them at 1 ohm, so each get about 800 or so. Would this cause a lot of wear on them? What other options do you guys suggest? I can sell my amp and sub then restart from scratch. I dont want to spend more than 750 w/o money included from amp and sub if i sell them.

Well first off, with two single 4 ohm subs you could only run them at 2 or 8 ohms. So you'd be getting about 400W to each. That's pretty good for a type r but they can take a little more.

750 won't get you much IMO.
