Boon Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Not on a budget Look into DLS for the components. Even their lower end stuff sounds very good but once you get into stuff around the MS6A point they get very nice. The tweeter in particular is phenomenal. Focal Access gear is also pretty good. The amps don't really matter, to be honest. These days they all sound about the same (with a few exceptions...) Depending on how you want to run the fronts (active/passive) you might be able to get away with a single large 4 channel amp like the DD S4 - 100w per side into some mids and 500w+ into a sub. For the sub you'll probably want a more SQ aligned thing in a sealed box. Look into the Image Dynamics range, Fi Q, AA Havoc (I think that's it...) The Atomic Quantum is very decent. Some of the Euro brands are worth a go as well - DLS again and Rainbow both make some very good SQ subs, as do Focal. If you can find one, a Phase Linear Aliante is one of the best sounding subs I have ever heard. Also don't skimp on processing power. Ideally you want to be able to control EQ and time alignment for optimum SQ - RF 360.2 works well along with several other high end sources. IMO you get much better sound from going 'active' - individually amplifying the mids and tweets and using the amplifiers or the headunits crossovers. This allows you to individually time align the mid and tweet. It takes longer to install and tune though, and if you get it wrong it can sound rather poor. A huge part of the sound is going to come from the install as well. The most critical thing is the installation of your mids - you may want to look into doing a sealed pod of sorts if the driver will play OK in one. Otherwise good deadening and sealing of your door is critical in getting good midbass. Once you have this sorted then getting the sub-bass and treble playing nicely isn't too hard. 10.x volts fo' life!
tacomabanga1986 Posted February 16, 2009 Author Report Posted February 16, 2009 the headunit i got now will run active from 50-200htz but i unno how to really set the tweets like that unless hp filter on the amp?, and i can set stuff pritty decent but i dont want to spring $500 for a 360 tho, but anyways is dls bout the best i can get for budget? and i was gunna take dynamat and put it over the back of my speakers "pod" thing that mounts into the door or will it work better if i just take that out, trace it into a piece of 1/4'' n then make a small box on back or fiberglass it for a sealed pod/box for the mid? and i want to work with my tweets but i unno how to angle em correctly tho, and i can fiberglass just not all that perfect but im still learning and i dont want to pod out my doors cause im not that good yet to make em clean, but what i posted might work good with the mids i got now but i unno if its a kicker thing or not but my ks 6&1/2 mids cone cracked on one of em and i dont kno how, but i want to do the best i can and if i seal the sub off in door with a pod/box ima halfto bedline coat it or coat it in resin so the water that comes down from window into door it might make the wood rot or what knot, i might try this soon when it gets warmer, and i was thinkin bout this also, and does cdt stuff sound good cause its more within my budget? i was thinkin this for a system? i was gunna put a set of these in the back on the side in factory speaker pockets but ima dynamat it behind there n prolly built a sealed pod or somethin to if it will fit http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=7020 and these for fronts maby these http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=4630 these are within my budget, but i unno what would be good for amps and eq/xover? i was thinkin this for an amp but i dont kno if it has enulf power to run all 4 speakers good enulf or not but ive not delt with them befor so i unno http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=4282 and for eq/xover i was thinkin this http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=5151 but i want to stay under $1,000 for everything, amps, subs, mids n highs and eq/xover, is it possable? here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit
brewer_brewer Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 re audio se for sub. you can get em so cheap on ebay these days (less than $150) that if your looking for budget sq its the best deal imo. great sounding woofers. as far as components and stuff i would go with phoenix gold just from what i've heard for budget sq and again for budget audioque 1200d and 4X90. should be under or close to a grand. its not the best sq stuff out there but its a budget.
