Wiring Up Two Head Units

Recommended Posts

once again i thought i posted this before and couldn't find it. i have my old school alpine, and want to get a new school head unit as well to run under the seat. reason being my old school alpine wont play burned cd's or my ipod. so i want to get a cd player that will. my only concern is the tuning, wont it change between each source? i may be able to get it how i want with the new unit but if i switch from it to the old school alpine, that tuning wont be around anymore. right?

anyways, how would i wire this up?

If you've been doing something for 20 years, does that mean what you do it right???

Umm...why wouldn't you just install the new Alpine in place of the old one?

Need an install? Hit me up.

in short, because i dont want to?

in detail....my old alpine is from 91 or so, and thats the style of my build, early 90s minitruckin. i want the alpine in the dash and the new one hidden.

anyone want to answer my question.

somehow I doubt it, but does the old HU have any input source? Like RCAs coming in?

yes, it does. its one of the old alpines that needed an amp to even work. so yes, it has two sets i believe.

I think you shouldn't bother trying to double up the head units until you understand how one works. It's going to be more trouble wiring another one in there (especially since you would have to pull the old one out anyways) than to just put the new one in.

And I doubt it has inputs being that old so you couldn't do it properly anyways.

*EDIT: If your 6-disc changer is attached to the HU then you most likely have inputs, but it's taken up by the changer. Something in there would have to go.

maybe i could just hook up the old one and hope i can use just my ipod straight to the amps or something. it would just be sick to use the old alpine setup.
