Dual Battery Question

Hey folks,

I'm throwing together a real quick SPL build for a couple of shows coming up.

The gear will only be in the car for a couple of weeks so I can't be bothered making room for the huge battery up front and running all the 0ga through the car, SO:

There is a stock battery in the front. It has a run of 4ga with a 100A fuse at both ends going to the back, where it is connected to a Datasafe HX400 in the tyre well. This is a massive burping-type battery.

The run of 4ga is basically there so I can charge the battery in the back with the alt.

Sitting in the boot is a VFL400.1 - on a burp this pulls about 500A. It's connected to a couple of bus bars attached to the battery.

Now, I have a horrible feeling that when I burp it the batteries will try to share the load and pull 250A through the 4ga and pop both fuses in it right away, which would annoy me quite a bit.

Will this actually happen?

Do I need to disconnect the front battery before I burp?

There's a thing called a "Battery Isolator" that you can connect in your power wire going from your starting battery to the amp. It will enable you to pull power from ONLY your alternate batteries and the alternator and have no effect on the starting battery. I am pretty sure that's how it works. Ask some more people on here what they think, i just recently learned about battery isolators and i am positive. It is so that on a normal daily high powered stereo system, you do not kill your starting battery so that you do not get stuck out in the middle of nowhere and need to get towed. Hopefully some other people on here are able ot help you with that idea.

yeah....i meant i am NOT positive, where i said i just learned about them. :shot: Also, the isolator goes in the wire going from your starting battery to the other/alternate batteries, not directly to your amp.

Yeah I thought about an isolator, I just don't want to spend any money because it's a temporary build

Meh, in the end I just bit the bullet and put a run of 0ga front to back.

Ow, it's loud. Hyundai Getz's werent meant to take that kind of punishment though, when the bass hits the rev needle spazzes out and the engine just about stops if I give it some gain
