Torres Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 so...i got a new rectifier to replace my old one in hopes of fixing my H/O alt, but i was not aware that lil strands of the coil come up through lil spots on the rectifier and are soldered all through it. my question is...how can i get the spots unsoldered to take it off? if i torch it, i'll end up melting the plastic on the old rectifier. then how exactly do i get em soldered back on? i'm hoping there's some techniques or something i dont know about that i can use to fix it. i dont wanna mess something up hopefully not some damn specialty tool that i dont have or else i bought a part for nothing :mad: EDIT: i can take pics if need be of what i'm talking about EDIT EDIT: i was doing this cuz i thought my alternator went out again...turns out it might not be my alt. so...ima take my car to a mechanic and see what the deal is and probably just return that piece (hopefully) and then send my alt back to ohio gen and see if they'll repair it

We have a couple of monster 300 watt irons we use, plus resistance soldering for bigger jobs.. If you have a 4G alternator (black rear cover) I would tell you dont even try it, they are a P.I.T.A!! The rectifier is the rear end frame, and the way Motorcraft designed that alt with the rear bearing in the rectifier was to say the least, idiotic... If you need it done and already have the rectifier send it to me and I'll do it for you no charge and send it back to you.. It's seriously 10 minutes for me to do it start to finish..
