Sealed Vs Ported

thats all anyone can say

in general a sealed box will give a wider, flatter response

but then you put it into a car that can have a completely out of whack transfer function and god knows what will happen

Uh, the best answer I can give you is.. Sealed enclosure limit you to a tighter, more punchy bass for the majority of anything you will play. Ported boxes on the other hand, can be tuned to your liking, they can also provide more range in my opinion. If I took into consideration all the music on my iPod, and not all the music I listen to in the car, I would prob have my enclosure tuned to ~40hz. I like the lows though, so the sketch I'm working on will be around ~32hz.

basically, your car resonates, and is a big air chamber

it can attenuate or destroy certain frequencies

that is why my subs tuned to like 43 hz can play 28 hz with ease, and why a sealed box with a perfectly flat response gives a peak in my car at like 30 hz.

and whoever said sealed is punchy is wrong, the punchiest bass i've ever heard is from ported boxes

and sealed can easily play any frequency.

ported gives more output, and can give a peak if you want it to
