Colin - STAPUFT Posted January 15, 2012 Author Report Posted January 15, 2012 Flat and smooooooth. Hit them with a quick coat of blue. Marked and drilled all 40 (yes, 40) holes. Even though this part is hidden by the headliner, I still didn't want seams. Wiring the passenger's side. Series parallel- so all 4 2" speakers to a 4 ohm load. Also wired in a cap to give a -6 dB high pass roll-off from @350 hz. From the outside. Imaging is much better. Each side points at the opposite side of the vehicle, but the angle and speaker off axis response is such that it still is audible without being point-source sounding. I have to set gains, tweak and so on. I also need to put in passive crossovers (straight off the amp to the speakers- run the low pass side of the x-over). They have some high frequency break up at very high volumes that irks me. These are 2" speakers I got from Parts Express. There are 4 on the left & right at 4 ohms, and there are 2 in the center (with an additional resistor) at 12 ohms. So... a total of 10 of the little suckers. Here is their link: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=289-127 So- with the$30 for the speakers, some for shipping, supplies (resin, glass, brushes, carpet, etc...)- I would venture that I have $75 in this- TOPS. ...well, if my time were free I guess. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain.
