  1. Yeah, those power options tweak a lot of things.. fan speeds and what not (not like many of them are controllable, at least in my case lol). Those temps are awesome either way haha. I'm runnin my 3770k @ 4.5 and idle is ~30C.
  2. Lmao, don't feel bad.. I had the same problem and it took me ACCIDENTALLY coming across those options to figure it out.. I couldn't figure out why it'd fluctuate between ~1500 MHz to my 4.5 GHz clock.
  3. Damn, it's not as easy as just disabling the Turbo Boost and upping the multiplier? I'm not trying to say it as though you didn't already check that, I'm genuinely curious as I'm not familiar with the BIOS of those boards. I do know with my Gigabyte it was that simple, though (granted I'm not running any sort of cooling like you are ). I could also be misunderstanding what you're trying to do. nope that didn't work. On previous version's of my bios, that is all you needed to do. This one is just different enough to f#ck me. LOL...I can disable turbo mode and "sync all cores" to 4.6g (for example) but it will still be 3.7 and work it's way up to 4.6 when needed. That's nice technology and all, eco friendly i guess.....but i have no idea when it's actually overclocking itself i just have to hope it is. That sucks. I am gonna get that handled though probably today. It's just a few settings i haven't figured out yet. Does it fluctuate inside the OS? If so, it might be a power setting. In the control panel, if the "Power Options" is available, go in there and in the advanced settings in the Edit Plan Settings, there's a category for "Processor power management". For my Balanced profile, Minimum processor state is 5% and it allows fluctuation in CPU clock. For High performance, it's at 100% and doesn't fluctuate at all. Lemme know if that helps. Edit: You can check CPU clock in Windows VIA CoreTemp, if you aren't already familiar with it.

I'm no fanboy, but I laugh when AMD kids talk about how awesome their AMD processors are because of their true 8 cores.. lol Personally, I find Haswell was a disappointment, as the only real difference 3770k vs 4770k is better integrated graphics and a higher TDP. I guess maybe I'm a little biased as I already run a 3770k, so I don't see it worth upgrading. As for video... I almost sold my 660 Ti to grab dual 770s/780s, but I figured it's overkill and I really don't do anything that would require a single 660 Ti, much less SLI'd 660 Ti's. The Titan wasn't very special, either. Granted, it is a pretty nice card (and some of the builds people have done are pretty sexy), but there's so many better options (such as dual 780s). That 290.. I'll pass.
  6. so i should ignore the manual and go with "jeremy, from the internet's" advice instead? and just know this, the 2nd and 3rd cards, i went out of my way to make those "lines" in the pattern as thin as possible so i wouldn't have to listen to the know-it-all's again. Guess what happened? it self leveled again, spreading out on the chip on it's own, and started too look like too much AGAIN. But i know it isn't too much. As for the pattern itself, most of the bulk of it gathers at the center, where all the lines criss-cross making most of the blob in the middle. Also, guess what else? the temps are great, no problems at all. Honestly, 1/10th of 1000% of the people on my forum, facebook, twitter and youtube have never pulled apart a perfectly good video card and replaced the heat sync with a water block......so i am not sure where all the experts are coming from. I would say the usual "you read too much and don't DO enough"....except for if you READ, it tells you, i did it right. I'm not saying you should ignore the manual, I'm just going by experience from actually playing around with different methods of applying thermal paste. I personally would have tried both methods and see which worked better just out of curiosity. And yes, I said that it LOOKS THICK but is probably deceiving me, maybe you should read things. Speaking of reading things, being a senior IT field technician for an IT firm in DC, and doing federal government contracting ..you're absolutely right, I don't do enough. I mean, you started your post with "I'm sure this is the last thing Steve wants to hear". Too much is better than not enough. I can understand too much being a problem if the paste was conductive, or even too much to the point it was all over the entire board, but I'm fairly sure that manual was well thought out given the complexity of watercooling. They're going to ensure the most accurate directions as a simple mistake can ruin all that equipment. I saw every single picture and watched the video that was posted and I saw no problem with any part of the build. It is exactly what I always see from any of Meade's builds: well thought out, carefully done and completely top notch. Great build, bro! I'm all jelly.
  7. don't blow that thing on purpose now.. it won't. Keep fresh oil in a 5.3 and it will run forever....so i am not worried. Oh I know. Those 5.3's are stout as hell.. but I'm just imagining a 6.0 in there. I also love the front end of the Yukons.. I have a feeling we're in for another good treat!

  9. Trolls will be trolls! I cannot begin to tell you how much I've learned from visiting this forum. I've seen things I would never imagine possible be posted here by various members. I think each UBL I read gives me ideas and/or tips/tricks I can use in my personal (but small) builds. I have a few friends that plan on doing semi big systems in show trucks soon that are going to make me put what I've learned to the test, and I can't hide that I will still look here for ideas when that time comes. My post count is small, as I mainly lurk, but Steve, from what I've seen, you're an amazing guy, and your work speaks for itself. I'd love to meet you one day and hear all your systems. And I cannot count the amount of links I've clicked on Facebook that you've posted of members' builds, small and large. Your heart is in the right place, bro! I'll continue clicking your links and following the work of you and many others on this forum, and look forward for posting pictures/info of my system when the time comes!

  11. Just a lil update This thing loves the mud now. 2" Xtreme lift installed, as well as an EPI Clutch Kit (1,500 RPM engagement stock to 2,200 RPM engagement with the EPI kit). HIDs will probably be built (going to try making my own bulbs, just a little DIY project) and go in tomorrow afternoon, and dual snorkels (one from airbox, one dummy snorkel to run vent lines into) will possibly come soon.

  13. I will run the box subs up/forward port up in the truck, but the box would be tall, and would fit in a car. I'd put it subs back port back in the car's trunk. I know the tuning is a little high, but would the box be safe for my needs?
  14. This box would also fit in the car I MIGHT be getting, that's why I was trying to keep it around what it's at now. If that would happen, I could face it port back subs back.
  15. I've been tinkering with Torres' calc, and I was wondering if anyone could check out the specs I have. The box is for two Kicker CVR 15s ('03 model) then eventually for two DC Lvl 3/4 15s. Box will be in place of my back seat in my truck and be subs up/port up (unless subs forward/port up or subs forward/port forward is better) Box dimensions: - 30" height x 40" width x 15" depth Port dimensions: - 13.5" height x 8" width x 20.5" depth (port up with 2 common port walls) With the displacement of the two Kicker 15s, I should have 6.45 cu. ft. net vol with 16.75 sq. in. port area tuned at 36.93 Hz. With the displacement of two DC LVL4 15s, I should have 6.31 cu. ft. net vol with 17.12 sq. in. port area tuned at 37.34 Hz. With the displacement of two DC LVL3 15s, I should have 6.39 cu. ft. net vol with 16.90 sq. in. port area tuned at 37.10 Hz. I can go as wide as 50", but I'd rather not go more than 30" tall or 15" deep. I'd appreciate any criticism/comments, just no flaming.

  17. Thank you. It's getting it's performance boost soon It loves them, probably not as much as that outlander though! Hahah. My 420 has the power to turn them. I rev out in first, but in second it bogs down bad. All it'll take to fix that is a clutch kit, which I'm installing for this weekend. Eventually I'll end up with an EFI programmer, exhaust and lift, but for now the clutch kit will do what I need. It's a beast, and it's got a LOT of potential. Just takes time
  18. Mudslide is fun as hell. We went yesterday and got rained out, hahah. All us coonasses need to meet and hit up something one weekend. We should be heading back to Mudslide this Sunday. Colfax for Labor Day wkd! Lets get it. This is before they moved all the dirt at Mudslide. Edit: Just noticed.. those 28s are barely clearing in the front. hahah. they rub in the back when I have someone riding with me. clutch kit and lift soon!
