Hello everyone. I have a question:

I have a 96 vw golf that i recently installed 4 6-1/2" Menace speakers in all 4 doors. They are kind-of like EV speakers, mostly mid-range. They are rated for 150watts a piece at 8ohms. I have an Audiobahn A6004T. I had them hooked to the amp using all 4 channels, but being they are 8ohm speakers, it kind-of dropped the sound a bit. So I re-wired the speakers so there is only left and right, and no front back, thus making left and right a 4ohm load. Now, my question is... am I safe running it like this? If not, whats a safe way to run them without blowing/burning them up?

I'm not totally retarded when it comes to car audio, but I just don't know whats a "safe" wattage with 2 bridged 8ohm 150watt speakers on one channel.

1996 Vw Jetta

Crunch 1500watt

1- Kicker 15" L7 @ 1ohm in a 4cu. ft. Ported Enclosure Tuned to 32Hz.

4- 6.5" Menace Door Speakers &

2- Menace super tweeters in the dash

139.11db @ 40hz (6/2010..old amp setup)

Not sure how you have them wired to the amp but it would break down like this....

If you have the speakers wired in parallel off of ch 1&2 or 3&4 in stereo, the amp would see a 4ohm load at 75 rms. This means each speaker is getting 37.5 rms watts.

if you have them wired in parallel with the amp bridged into 2ch, the amp would be putting out 300 rms on a 4 ohm load so each speaker would be getting 150 rms watts.

I do have running in parallel bridged into the 1&3 channels (they way it says on the amp). Both left speakers are bridged, and both right side speakers are bridged. So, goin off your calculations, I should turn my amp down? Is that amp "really" putting out that much bridged? I have the amp turned up a little past 3/4 of the way cuz if I turn it down, I can hear distortion from my head unit when I turn it up. (i.e. vocals get kida sloppy)

Don't know about the speakers rateing of 150 watts you mentioned, is that peak or RMS?

If it's RMS then I would say you should be fine because I would think that the power rateings on the amp are a little over-rated.

If it's max, then I would say that your pushing the speakers to thier limit so I would turn it down.

I just checked one of the speakers, the back says 150watts RMS. So I should be perfectly fine even if the amp was turned all the way up, correct?

Well, You want to keep the gains on the amp as low as possible but if it takes care of the distortion where you have it set now, then I would think that you are good to go.

The higher the gains are, the more of a "dirty" signal it will put out to the speakers.

Well, I ended up turning them down to 3/4 of the way. Sounds pretty good where its at at all volumes. I'm gonna keep it that way for now.

Thank you for your help and info! :drinks:
