Newb Here... Need A Little Help On Box Please(build Pics Inside)

Recommended Posts

:search: Hows it going all?? Great forum here and i have used it many times in my reaserch so i thought i would finally register.

The last set-up I ran was 12 12w-1 Jls( the first version) in a 14cube sealed box with an old Pheinox gold amp that was rated at 100x2 but was stable down to .5ohms if my old ass remembers correctly.I really cant remember the model. Point being, its been a LONG frigin time since ive done an install.

I have had a very tight budget doing my set up but i have aquried

Crunch Powerzone 1500.1 mono

3) 4ohm DVC Power acoustik Fubar-12w's

4Ga run/ Alt Wire upped to 4ga as well. 250amp Memphis Breaker

Memphis Rca's(I HATE cheapo RCAs)so i prolly pade way to much for em..

My Head's sub out isnt a mono out so i also got a Y-adapter as called for.

I have ruffly 350 dollars in My equipment(not counting wiring) So i am NOT expecting to go hit mid 150s but i want a loud clean street setup tuned at ruffly 32-35hz.

I put a pair of the old W-1 in a premade sealed box and ran a few Sine sweeps moving the box around facing different directions in the Extended cab of my 94 GMC Siearra. To my ear the 30-35hz range hurt the most. This is how i have come to the 33ish Hz range. I listen to alot of Old Rap and Classic rock soi still want the punch and crisp sound in the higher Freq. Ranges but i do want to Lump it when wanted..

I have Decided on a 7cf Enclosure with 2 4" ports. My delima is, i have never built a ported enclosure and all this math shit is really confusing.

I have the base Enclosure Buuilt and clocks in at 5.181cubes. Im going to Ring & Glass the top. The top of the Box is set at exactly 12* angle. With the angle i want tplace the subs I will gain the extra 2cf if i follow my math very closly.

In the Extended Cab of my truck my Question(s) are this.

Can someone please Help me on the ports. I have thought of doing a subb up/port up, a sub up/port foward at bottom of box, and also a long Slot Port across the front of the box fire under the seats toward the front floor. I have used the calculators found on numerous websites like the12v.com and carstereo help.com.

I keep coming up with 2 ports at 4x5.96in. If im doing the math right ill end up with 7cubes and 47.68in of port area. RIGHT???? or am i way off here.

And my second is teh orientation i will get the most output for power/subs im using. I have purchased a 4x24 piece of 1/4in PVC to use as my ports. WHAT DIRECTION should i go with the ports..

I would really appreciate any and all suggestions because i have been racking my Bi-Polar brain for 4 nights trying to search for answers.

I hope ive giving enough info for some pointers..

Thanx Again

Aaron

Not near enough port area for that setup unless you want to tune higher and run double rms.

Could you Point me in a correct direction. One calc i used gives a 47.68area adn the other gave me 56.14. what i did was 4*5.96( the length put out on the calc.)and got 23.86*2 ports is where i got my 47.68 figure.

Ok, i did a little more searching, and maybe my first idea isnt the way to go. I have ruffly a 62widex18.5(h1)x 15.5(hgt2)x17deep area to get the box the 1500.1, a crunch2250 for mids/highs, and other stuff like a Cap and possibly an extra Batt. I thought i can get the most useful room doing the fiber glass.

I am open to any and all ideas at this point.

I did some serious thinking and remeasured and i really need to Stick with the original plan with my 40in wide 5.18 base box and the Glass top/Baffle. Im figuring up the volume now and will post the final number, but i thought i would post pics of what i have so far. I have a few more braces to put in but the wife is sleeping, but i will figure them into my final volume, and put them in after work .

I hope somone can offer some input into a port length/size for me, because i am absolutely frustrated with the math. Im going to Guestimate about 6.5cubes after displacement, and the 2 PVC are 4in, or should i take them back and go with a slot?

*6.05ft^3 after braces,sub displacment.*

do 4x 4" ports at 17.5" long for 33hz

Thanks, once i had some sleep and thought with a clear head, it made alot more sense, that and the car stereo calculator. Ill be under 6cubes with 4 so im going with 3 4x12.6 ports. Got the first coat of Resin on it and its drying now. Once it gets hard, im going to take the bottom of the box off and do the mat/resin layers inside to build the thickness and to glass in the bracing. I used Fleece to do the wraping, and it sucks up the resin for a good solid outer wall.

Does 5/16 sound thick enough?? I have 2 gallons of resin i planned on using so i shouldnt have a problem getting it that thick.

BTW your CAD boxes are sick ...I Tattoo for a living so all my drawing is done the Ol' fashion way.

And thanks again.

So next time ill use longer staples.. cuzz the pulled out when the resin started curing around the middle hole so i had to do a little repair but its fully resined and sitting to dry till 10pm or later sat when i get out of work.

How well do the ends of a round port did braced inside BTW? if anyone cares to share, Ive got 3 pieces of 1x3 i was going to use as a stilt from the box bottom to the port.

I did all the body work on the box the last 2 days since i was off work, got it ready to paint and changed my mind, so since i bought the Wally-world outa spray glue earlier tonight, ill have to stop with it half Vinyled.. This was the first and LAST fiberglass enclosure i ever build i do know that. Although i wouldnt do the same mistakes on another Go-round, its still way to much work for a daily-setup.

Heres a link to the photobucket with the updated pics.. Im the bald one with the tattoos and glasses..
