Looking For Diagnosis

At about 2:45 AM, I was trying to burn a CD on iTunes. There was a malfunction and the CD did not burn properly. I was unable to eject the CD, using the command via iTunes, My Computer, or the button on the tower. I proceeded to restart the computer. At this point, the computer failed to boot; it tried to find a file on the CD to boot from. I removed the CD and tried to shut down; this failed. I proceeded to cut power to the stack and try again, to no avail. The only way to boot the computer was to disconnect all accessories, including the modem, manually access the boot menu and direct it to the boot file on the hard drive. Then the computer booted without an issue.

We use Norton antivirus, Spysweeper anti-spyware, and a bunch of other malware and spyware things my mom downloaded for free that I cannot recall. This is not the first time this has happened; it usually happens after my sister has been online. She does a lot of roleplays and downloading of pictures and images, editing them and reposting them. I don't know what it is; she claims it's not anything she is doing.

Any ideas?

The CD not burning properly is rare but it can happen. It's probably a bug in the program. Make sure you're not doing other stuff while you're burning or you'll have bad burns! When some computers have a CD in the tray they automatically try to boot from it (in case of using a rescue CD of some sort), so holding the power button down until it's off will work to shut it down. When you cut power to the computer, you likely caused the BIOS to reset to defaults, meaning it will automatically try to boot from USB devices, CDs, floppy drives, network boot, before it boots to the Hard Drive. Some computers' BIOS are different though, some boot from the Hard Drive by default while others try everything before the Hard Drive. I don't think it's a virus, but then again Spybot isn't very good of an antivirus. Geek Squad scans with 7 different antiviruses and I still find many on each scanner. If you're a safe user you're probably fine.
