I picked up a 2000 Explorer not long ago, I've done a few thing to the outside and now it's ready for a system.

I'm wanting a Double DIN head unit with navi that I can still use my factory steering wheel controls with.

So far I saw this one and liked the way it looked

Any opinions on this one or a recommendation for another one?

I'm also looking for a new amp. I've seen the HiFonics brutus that claims to produce 1600 WRMS at 1 ohm.

I've never owned anything HiFonics brand, or even been around one for that matter, Are they overrated? How is the quality? Is there anything else I should look into?

Subs?

So far I'm completely open to subs, I've been looking at everything from kenwood to re to rockford.

Normally I would choose rockford fosgate subs just because I've become comfortable with them over the years I've owned them but I could use a change.

Like I said in the beginning this is going in an Explorer, I'm hoping the box can be around 41.5" at the bottom then as the sides go up about 4" I want the box to go wider above the inside rear fenders, maybe another 5" wider on each side. I also plan for it to be around 20" tall and 28-30" deep. I'll have to measure and double check this to be sure though.

My budget for the bass is around 1k, the budget for the head unit is less than 1k.

Lets hear my options guys..

Thanks, I've been lurking on this forum and reading for months. I decided I might as well join the crowd and ask questions that actually pertained to the size box I'm able to work with and the head unit I was interested in though. This forum is huge and it seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people here that would be more than happy to help me get a few ideas in my head.

the hifonics amps are a good bang for the buck... perhaps a bit overrated in some cases... but alot of guys here run the brutus series amps.... i myself had a bxi608 and it was pretty solid.... alpine also makes good amps, they are a tad bit more expensive though... there are alot of good brands out there... and if you have had alot of rockford systems perhaps it time for a change.... idk what to tell you to get.... but chances are that you wont be the only one here with a certain setup.... dcsoundlabs makes great subs, so that would be my first suggestion...

you can get 6 cubes easy only going 41.5 wide and keep it under the seat line which is good for 4 dc level 3s or another sub thats likes that air space

I'd stay away from Panisonic they kind aren't around as far as car audio goes anymore. Plus I think you have to use a IR steering wheel control box on that unit and they suck to use. If you want steering wheel control and Nav I would go for any of the Kenwoods out there right now, plus Alpine has been kicking some butt this year in the double din world.
