shainemcconnell Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 I am in the process of redoing my system right now... Nothing is hooked up at the moment, I noticed that my Alt. gets pretty warm quick...is this a normal thing, my battery gauge still says between 14 and 15.2 volts. never really felt the alt after a few minutes of running from a cold start. 2010 IDBL Rookie 1 North American Champion 2009 IDBL Rookie 1 Fl State Champion 2009 EBB Fly Weight 3rd Place Fl State Finals 2006 Silver Grand Prix GXP :Diablo Audio Hellfire 1000.1, JL Audio 300/4, One 13W7, ZR650, VR690, JL Cleansweep setup. Soulman07 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Yeah they get pretty warm... if you are internally regulated then you can feel the voltage drop pretty good. I had the MLA set at 15.3, once the aluminum heats up and starts kicking heat around... After driving for around 15-20 minutes in the summer I'd drop to 14.4. Long driving trips = high 13's to 14.1. I got an external regulator and now the voltage doesn't fluctuate at all from 15.3. Soooo I mounted it inside the glove box and problem solved there. Don't really worry about the operating temperature of the alternator too much. I'd be more concerned about heat causing you to lose voltage. 1993 Chevrolet SWB Pickup Viper 791XV Primer Stage 5/8 Static Drop Kinetik HC1800 Big 3 Knu Flex 0 Team Tex Flex
