Question About Batteries And Alternators

I have a db eletric 200 amp alternator and a kinetik 2000 and 800 for my batteries. When I have my bass knob about 3/4 of the way turned up my volts drop down below 12.1 and it cuts off when really low bass comes on. I'm trying to see what i could do to eleminate the problem. Should I upgrade to a dual alternator setup or maybe put a line drive in it or even add another kinetik 2000.

How many of you guys that have big systems are running dual alternator setups and if not what are you running to keep ya'll systems going.

If I have the bass knob turned down all the way and my bass level on my cd player at -6. It plays fine at about 13.7 volts driving down the road. I want to have the volts running at 14.4 or at least 14.0.

Is your bass knob a bass knob or does it adjust your gain? What frequency does it boost? Are you clipping and pulling excess current at that frequency?

Get your alt dyno'd to see if it is really doing what it says and check the idle output. If it is like alot of other cheap HO alts it has little to no output at idle and is killing your voltage. Get a Mechman, Iraggi or Ohio Gen alt and i would put money on the problem being fixed or at least much better. Also would recommend upping your voltage either by a MLA module or research your specific alt to see what kind of diodes you can put in line to trick it into charging at a higher voltage.

this is a quote from an old Mechman post that may help you:

If you have an AD or CS series GM alt, go buy yourself a $.75 1 amp diode and solder it in-line in the sense wire on the alternator plug. It will boost the charging voltage accross the board .6 -.7 Volts. Want higher voltage? just double them up for another .6 - .7 volt increase

If you have a stock 3G or 4G Ford, go buy your self a 6 amp diode for $1.50 at radio shack and solder it in-line in the yellow sense/power wire on the alt plug for a .6 - .7V increase.

(high output versions using an aftermarket rotor will require (2) 6 amp diodes)

This helps out alot Sully. Thanks. I have a alternator from db eletric and i thought they were decent alternators. I may look into getting another one.
