Burnt Rockford 851s And 551s

I bought 2 amps that were supposed to be NIB, never hooked up even. I got home, installed one and nothing, no lights, no sound, no smoke, no anything at all. I check my power, its good, ground is good, its all going in where a different working amp came from, so i know its all fine. I decided to pull the amps apart and I see both of the coils on the amp right as the power go in are burnt and melted looking. The second amp had never even been installed by me and also was never supposed to have been used by the original owner. I called him back and he is supposed to try to make things right, he apologized and asked if they could be repaired and said he would try to work something out.

Here are the pictures, Let me know what you think, or if you think it could be fixed, who might be able to help me and how much it might cost to fix.

I hope I just didnt throw this money away. I was really excited about getting a better amp and some subs. Any help would be appreciated. I know I should have tested them but it all appeared new and I am too trusting I guess.

They're the main power transformers.... they look OK to me. That's probably just some glue shit they add to stop the transformers vibrating to pieces.

I would definitely check your install again before jumping to conclusions. If the transformer was that fucked it would be short power-ground and would blow your fuses as soon as it was connected.

A lot of Rockfords around this era are really picky about the remote voltage - we had some at the shop that wouldn't turn on from a Sony Deck because it was only giving ~11.8v on the remote. Try putting a little bit of wire from the 12v terminal to the remote, also get your multimeter out and check you do actually have voltage.

fixed. I knew it was something small...gosh and to think the conclusions I jump to. The Ground had vibrated fairly lose, I have a ground stud set up under my rear seat, and it was good enough to run my small amp but being lose it wouldn't even make these come on. A couple of lock washers and I was on my way again.
