I have 4 12" alpine type E's. i want to upgrade because i overpowered the subs now the coils are screwed up and smeel all the time and i was wondering if a dc level 4 18 in the same box (5 cubes @ 35hz) would be any louder. its going in my mercury mystique, subs up port back.

Maritime Car Audio- (2) 18" SSA ZCON D1

- American Bass 500.1

- 60 ft of 3/0

-480 Ah of battery

- (2) stock alternators (70 +90)

- Kenwood Excelon x-794, 4v preouts

car audio is just a LOT more complicated than "this amp does this power" or "this sub will be this loud". its like 2 + 2 = banana. (if that confuses you then you get the point) lol

well you are pushing around 1200 watts so if you are in to getting DC subs why not go with 4 LVL 2 12" subs in the same box?

what design is your current box right now?

i was thinking of that but ive always wanted an 18. and its subs up port back. and im only pushing 1000 watts but before i knew how to properly set the gains i screwed up the coils on my 12's by sending a shitload of clipped power to them.

I've never heard an 18 in your type of car so I can't give you any advice on that...

what about recones?

if you want to keep 12's then do the DC's but with subs forward port forward.

did it in a 2 door civic and it moves a lot of air and sounds decent.

whats your budget?

Wouldnt be thehoe92 without teh purple

ok im probly gonna put about $500-600 for the sub(s) and then when i get more money an amp. so my plan was to buy a level 4 18 then an aq1200 then run with that for a while then get another lvl 4 and another amp eventually. id strapp the amps and run them at 2ohms. and so subs forward port forward sealed from trunk is loudest in a sedan?
