JZeFF
Just been lookin at allot of subs lately.. and one thing kinda has me confused.. Sensitivity... why does it matter.. An infinity kappa perfect 12vq has a sensitivity of 89db... Does that make it better than 12" kicker l5's with an ~88db sensitivity.. And then looking at DC subs.. a level 2 15" sub has a higher sensitivity than a dc LVL 3 15" sub.. What makes the DC lvl 3 better? Im just trying to learn.. I got allot of buying to do soon.. and i wanna know my shit first Quote Pioneer x930 bt Rockford t2500 bdcp 18" nightshade v1 DC audio 175.4 RF power T162s up front, infinity 3 way 6x9's in the back (removing rear stage and re-doing doors soon) 3x XS power D2700's Knukonceptz 0awg all around
harrisonG
the sensitivity is how efficiently your sub converts your power into sound, higher the number, the louder it plays... thats according to crutchfield correct me if i or crutchfield is wrong Quote 2000 Nissan Xterra -Infinity 6020cs components -Infinity 692.7 6x9s -DC LVL 4 12 -AQ1200 -Pioneer DEHP860MP H/U -4 channel amp for mids and highs??? matt402
yes sensitivity matters, but so does xmax, motor strength, power handling, etc. etc.
JZeFF
And to add to my confusion.. how can a 12" sub with a max rms of 400w (the infinity) Have a higher sensitivity than a DC lvl 4 12" sub with a max rms of 1000w... harrisonG
i might be wrong, but it could have to do with the impedance. im pretty sure that (infinity) has a 2ohms impedance, also infinity makes products with higher sensitivities Edited July 23, 2009 by harrisonG Quote 2000 Nissan Xterra -Infinity 6020cs components -Infinity 692.7 6x9s -DC LVL 4 12 -AQ1200 -Pioneer DEHP860MP H/U -4 channel amp for mids and highs??? JZeFF
the infinity kappa perfect subs are either 4ohm or dual 4ohm.. only some of their stuff if 2ohm. Also... the DC lvl 4 has a higher xmax than the infinity... but the sensitivity is still lower... At least other people might gain some knowledge from this topic too.. lol Quote Pioneer x930 bt Rockford t2500 bdcp 18" nightshade v1 DC audio 175.4 RF power T162s up front, infinity 3 way 6x9's in the back (removing rear stage and re-doing doors soon) 3x XS power D2700's Knukonceptz 0awg all around
korey_hofer
infinity has a softer suspension more than likely and xmax does not matter air displacement does though Quote previously known as wenn_du_weinst aka fucking internet coward supreme. harrisonG
haha yeah im still learning also so a lot of my answers might not be fully correct or correct at all, all i know is that i was told infinity makes products with higher sensitivities, i could have been ill-informed, but i know the infinity sub i just had was like 93 while my new kenwood is 86 or 88 Quote 2000 Nissan Xterra -Infinity 6020cs components -Infinity 692.7 6x9s -DC LVL 4 12 -AQ1200 -Pioneer DEHP860MP H/U -4 channel amp for mids and highs??? thehoe92
every sub is built different and uses different parts. the infinity could have a higher sensitivity but the DC has a better motor. those numbers will mean nothing though if you don't put it in the correctly sized box Quote Wouldnt be thehoe92 without teh purple
Kandrew279
yeah and every time u double ur power its a 3 db gain so a sub that is 3db more sensitive makes it sound like u have double the power!
