CaptainzPlanetz Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Okay so we all know that if we had a dual 2 ohm coil sub and wired it in parallel we would come up with a 1 ohm load, but after impendance rise and box rise we may very well be at around 2-4 ohms, so using Fi as an example, you can get a BTL with either dual .7ohm coils(1 ohm) or dual 1.4ohm coils(2ohm), so my question by having 1.4 ohm coils wired in parallel equaling a pre load of .7 ohms, is this Fi's strategy counter act impendance and box rise, and do you think it will catch on to more of the mainstream brands. Discuss..... There are actually quite a few company's out there that are this way. 160 + dB and Gaining!!
Boon Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 It's because 1 ohm refers to the Z or Impedance which is an AC electricity term. The Re or R refers to the DC resistance and is 0.7 ohms. You'll find a hell of a lot of '1 ohm' coils read 0.7 ohms DCR. It's nothing special. Definitely need to be aware of it though, if you clip your amp you're outputting DC so the concept of Impedance, reactive load and impedance rise is shot to hell, you get straight DC resistance and your amp blows up because the load is too low... 10.x volts fo' life!
