brsteinbach Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 IDK if this is the right place for this but I wanted to put 2 or 4 LED's in my car off of a switch but I don't know how to wire it because I know they won't take 12 volts (6-3 volts ea). I have obviously never wired LED's before and don't want to experiment by blowing 4 at a time if it doesn't work. Thanks for the help in advance. 2 Infinity Reference 1252w 12s 4.2 cubic foot box tuned to 28hz Sub amp: 1 Profile AP1200 Speaker amp: 1 Sony Xplod XM-504z Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X492 4 and 8 Gauge Knu Big III In 1/0 All in my 90 Accord Diamonds are forever, but 9's end that shit fast....

Thanks for the help in advance. http://www.instructables.com/id/EVSO9B1KO5EV2Z9T0L/ found this place that went REALLY basic on me. sound like you will either have to wire in a series (4 of the leds) to get a full 3v to each one. you could do all 6 but would only get 2v to each one making them kinda dim. anyways read up on this, may just have to wire in certain way to get 3v to all 6 with 12v system,,,,,maybe a couple resitors 06 2500hd, 6.0L, 4l80e, 4wd, (muah work truck) 7" BDS HC lift kit (5) 37x13.5R18 Toyo Open Country M/Ts (5) 18x10 Moto Metal MO962 tablet in lieu of deck blue tooth interconnect to soundstream eq (for volume control and bass control) 4 Alpine type r 10's 6 cubes net, 80sqin's port, tuned to 33hz 2 brutus brx5000.5's 2 pairs 3" polk audio for a pillars 4 pairs polk audio 6.5 comps 1 pair 8" polk audio for mids 2 xspower d3400 batteries.....learning alot from meade and his circle of some of the baddest installers ive seen- thanks guys, for not being so cocky and posting the way it should be done!P.S. Thanks Steve....for the demo!!!! loud as fauk!

BigJohnny Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 you just use a resistor. there are many led wiring calculators out there that will tell you different ways to wire them and what resistor values you need. You can either wire the LEDs in series, which I believe might give you 12v, if they are 3v each, you would still need a resistor because a car isn't 12v. you could have one resistor per LED, or one resistor for all of the LEDs together in series or parallel. it's really not hard, it's just all about the resistor.

I've found it best to wire each LED to a resistor. This way if one goes out, the other will still work. I've got 12 LEDs on my alarm system right now, and working on more.
