white4d96 Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Okay, so I was messing with my amp the other day, trying out different setups for when I don't have as much trunk space (i.e. where to put the damn thing) and I go to tighten the negative speaker wire down and...it doesn't tighten. When I pick the allen driver up the screw comes with it, and the threads on the amp side are GONE. OH SNAPZ SUMWUNZ STOLD DEMZ!!! Joking aside, I was wondering if there was any particular material of screw I should look for to go in its place and/or any specific method for retapping the hole, or if I can just use a generic bolt that fits. Anyone got advice? Amp is a Power Acoustik (THERES THE PROBLEM =P) ov1-2000d, the Gothic series. Too many projects, too little time...
dsoccer Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I snapped a screw for my power on my amp. I ended up finding a screw that fit the threads, tightened, and all set. Boon Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Any good fastener shop should have brass grub screws. Might cost a bit though. Did you strip the screw or the amp? Often it's the amp's terminals that strip first... then you have to go a size up in the grub screw and get one with a coarse thread so it'll self-tap. 10.x volts fo' life!
