rival904
I had a router I used mainly to cut woofers with using a Jasper Circle Jig, it took foreverrr. I was using a cheap-o 60 dollar Ryobi router, and a harbor freight upcut bit, which was more of the slowdown, the weak router or the bit? Anyways, I want to try to roundover edges and stuff, but everytime I try, I just fail miserably, it is easily the tool I suck the most at, here is an an example of a 3/4 roundover bit used on 3/4in MDF by yours truley. Any tips of things I can do to help my router skills? 2004 Yellow F150 STX 4x4 Single Cab 2 Yellow DC Power 270SP's Alts 4(and counting) XS Power 6500's 4 DD3515s Supercharged 53cu.ft 4th order blowthrough 8 DD M1b's 6 Selenium 8's 2 Selenium ST350s 154.1 @ 41hz Legal Burp Build Log

indytrucks
Looks to me like the depth of the bit is too much. Is the bearing the right size?
rival904
Well like I said, that was my first time trying to use a roundover bit, I mainly use the jasper jig but I wanted to play around. 2004 Yellow F150 STX 4x4 Single Cab 2 Yellow DC Power 270SP's Alts 4(and counting) XS Power 6500's 4 DD3515s Supercharged 53cu.ft 4th order blowthrough 8 DD M1b's 6 Selenium 8's 2 Selenium ST350s 154.1 @ 41hz Legal Burp Build Log
-Hobby-
On a complex curve like that you cant use a 3/4" roundover on a 3/4" piece of stock. There is nothing for the bearing to ride on. If you do use a 3/4" bit you will have to leave the bit raised somewhat so the bearing can ride on the edge. That or use a smaller radius roundover. Derrick824
All you do is clamp the two sides together before assembly so that the bearing rides on the other side. When doing a project like this & you want both sides to match it's a good idea to free hand the first side then use it as a template to cut the other side using a flush bit. rival904
I understand, so without anything for the bearing to ride on, the bit is useless? PS - Where you @ the Jax show with the Excursion? Not I sir, sorry. You can also do as Derrick suggested but that would have to be done before you put the box together. that and drop your router base down a bit so you dont cut too deep with the bit and leave the depression on the surface. Should be a smooth transition to the sides of your box. Unless you were doing that to leave a gap to staple into for fiberglassing. Just a guess.
