Mdraha Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 My friend has an enclosure sort of different than most systems that I've heard. Most that I've heard hit the lower notes but his picks up frequencies from about 45Hz to 100Hz (approximation). I say this because I mix music on the side and I checked out a song that he's played in his car and after some analyzing with a program I figured it's about 45 to 100. He doesn't know ANYTHING about car audio...He just bought a premade box for the L7s and had someone put it together. So I'm wondering what his tuning could possibly be just from knowing this info that it hits from 45Hz to 100Hz.

Could you post up pics of the box, and dimensions, with that it probably wont be to hard to figure out tuning within a few Hz, but from my Exp. alot of the prefab box's are tuned pretty high like in the 45-60hz range. ¿ǝɯɐƃ ǝɥʇ Trolls never learn............ Mdraha Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 From what I remember, it's ABOUT 36x16x15. Not sure exactly though but if I get a chance to take pics I'll do it. It's simple though. 2 12" L7s, with a 4" port in the middle with the dimensions I just gave you. That's all you'll really see from the picture. So hitting the notes from 45Hz to 100hz doesn't give you any estimation what it could be tuned to? It's probably the loudest at 60Hz but that's just a guess from the songs I've heard in there.
CaptainzPlanetz Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Well as a general rule of thumb ported boxes "usually" peak about 5-8hz, above there tuning so if I had to guess it would be tuned in the low 50's which is really high. Also to find out the exact tuning of the port I need to know how long the port is, as you factor that in to get the tuning. So like this except with the port in the middle, if you can get me the port length I can get you an exact number, right now this port is about 45Hz. ¿ǝɯɐƃ ǝɥʇ Trolls never learn............ Mdraha Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 There's probably no way for me to find out the port length since it's a premade box. But I always see people saying that tuning at high frequencies would make the SQ suffer and it should only be used in competitions, but it really sounds good to me in the range that it actually plays at. The only thing it's missing is the low end so I'm confused why people say "it only works for test tones used in comps."
