bobo333
wow i havnt updates here for a while!... sorry guys unfortunatly shortly after my last update i broke the MT , aparently they dont like smashing the lows all day on 8kw, the spider ripped from the back of the cone: luckily it doesnt look like the coil is damaged so a bit of glue should fix it when i get around to it... after that came out i did some more work on my door pods, spaced the baffles and the rest of the skeleton off the base with a mix of threaded rod and bits of mdf: then did a test fit of the speakers and the port: before wrapping it in some random stratchy material: i then test fitted them in the car again before adding a couple of layers of glass: then another test fit: before some bog to fill the wrinkles and more glass then in they went: and the speakers too: i had a bit of a problem with the ports rattling coz they werent fixed strong enough yet, but they sounded great! soooo much midbass, and facking loud too! heres a quick vid: i also relocated the tweeters further up the a pillars before that vid to bring the stage height up a bit: more next post! ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^
bobo333
once the doors were up and running i needed some bass again, and with an interstate trip looming for and SQ comp i decided to try adding some bass without taking up any trunk space (i wanted to put a mattress in to sleep after the comp) after a bit of thinking and measuring i decided some 8" floor loaded in the rear footwells would do nicely: i could fit about 1.2 cubes behind each seat, with around 100mm to the floor for the subs the breathe under the seats, hopefully this would mean nice upfront bass the box was screwed and glued together then dropped in: i used jaycar papercone 8" as they were cheap, efficient, and i already had 2 of them laying around i also put the green shag pile floor mat over the box to cover it up: to test it out i just hooked it to the spare channels on the schneider 4 channel running the front doors, so 1 channel at 2ohm to each front door, and 2 channels bridged to the 2 8"s they werent the loudest thing ever unfortunatly and didnt really hit the lows at all which is what i wanted, they were more of a midbass boost to my already crazy loud midbass so made dance and rock music sound epic, but anything else didnt really work... after that failed i did a bit more work on the doors and got them rattling less and gave them a bit more power... heres a better vid: thanks for looking... still a bit to go before im up to date ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^
bobo333
hey guys a week before the interstate trip for the first SQ comp of the 2011 season one of my mates rang me with a proposition, he had some speakers laying around but no car, and i had a car with crappy cheap speakers... soon after i ripped everything out for a lightning rebuild... the fronts: Seas Excel 6" mids and matching full format tweeters: beefy ass motors and sexy copper phase plugs: the mids went into the door pods with some spacers made up to reduce the 6.5" holes down to 6", i also sealed up the ports and added some alpine grills to protect them: then for the tweeters i made up some rings and used head unit backstraps carefully bent and screwed onto the a pillars perfectly on axis for the driver: then for the sub stage i made a new box for the JL W6, 1.4 cubes sealed with some dacron stuffing, i made it super strong to reduce the chance of box flex adding any nastyness to the sound: then a few nights listening and tuning revealed that the schneider amps werent quite up to the task, it sounded awesome, so detailed with better imaging and tonality than id ever had in this car, but something was missing, it was kinda... lifeless :S luckily the day before we were due to leave for the comp a package arrived... unpacking it revealed some sexy italian goodness: they are mosconi amps, an AS100.2 for the tweeters and an AS200.4 of which 2 channels would run the mids in the doors and the other 2 bridged onto the JL sub: a new amp rack was made to hold them stacked on the side of the boot, all of the wiring was run along the floor and taped down: then my matress was put on top to cover the wiring and provide accomodation for the trip... here it is at the show: and a couple of pics from the drive: the mosconis sounded amazing and i scored quite highly in the SQ judging, unfortuantly with such a rushed install i missed out on a few valuable safety points and with such a tight field this year that put me back in the pack... oh well theres always next round! thanks for lookin! ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^

bobo333
i could... but id rather spend the money on something with a lil more cone area since the show the front speakers have gone back to the owner and ive replaced them with a set of CDT 6.5" coax's, they are mounted in the front hole of the door pods with the rear hole blanked off (for now) i dont have any pics but they still sound pretty good, the stage height has dropped a bit obviously (down to about the middle of the dash from 2" above) but they are still quite detailed and hit the lows awesomely with the big pods lol... oh yeah i just found a pic from another show i went to recently: other than that i havnt really done anything but enjoy it at the moment, ive been spending most of my time and money on my other project... you can see it in the pic above, the pink and black van dubbed "vandersexx" i really should start a build log on here for it EDIT: i did, and here it is: teh VANDERSEXX thanks for lookin ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^
