cakedawg Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 my neighbor built a stereo into a cooler. he has speakers subs and amps and hes powering it with a deep cycle marine battery. says itll last a few hours before he has to charge it. do you think it really lasts that long? i want to build something like this for out at my ranch, just dont wanna have to recharge it every 20 minutes. as long as i can get a good 2-3 hours id be happy. id use a shruken car audio battery.....thanks fellas....

It had 100W amp and two 6x9 speakers and was powered by a very small deep cycle battery (IIRC, it was like 50 AH or something like that). It lasted a good 2-3 hours. It even had an ipod charger (I played the music from my ipod). My comp setup (Not bad for what it is): HP Compaq Presario V6120US laptop with: 15.4" widescreen AMD Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz processor 2x1GB stick DDR2 SDRAM (667 Mhz) Seagate Momentus 500GB SATA HDD 128MB shared video memory Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit 12 cell Lithium Ion battery (actual battery usage time: 6 hours) What it does: On a USB 2.0 Wireless card

(If you know how heavy a lawn mower batt* is, then my school backpack is almost that heavy almost every night) *The batt I used was about as heavy as a lawn mower batt. I just had an idea. You could put a small solar panel on it. A little one would work. It wouldn't charge the battery fast enough, but it would keep the voltage up when the batt was running low. Keeping the voltage up would help it run a few extra minutes. But it's up to you. But it's up to you. solar panel is a good idea actually. im gonna use this for varmint hunting so itll be outside all the time. from the solar panel i guess id just run the positive from solar panel to pos on batt and likewise for negative? thanks
BanginOnABudget Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 dude, all im saying is, those are fun to make. aslong as you know how to fiberglass you can make a pretty good one, ive been looking at goodwill and such at the BIG tough $5 suitcases, i was thinking top= angled deck with 5.25 components off of deck power, and a cheap ssl 400 watt running into a 10" in the bottom, with a little side compartment with a hc800 bat...but i dont have the moneys :[ i was thinking, a little charging circut from 110 volt, plug it in over night and get full charge on like 10 amps or so, shit would be peachy. but yeah...just an idea. back to topic...HOW MUCH DOES A SOLAR PANEL COST? I DONT EVEN WANT TO KNOW!!! im taking out my passenger seat, battery is disconnected, going to unwire and take out the three amps, take out the 70+ lb box, then the platform so i can crimp 1 wire. Almost as bad as those fegs that put those horns in their grills and roll down the street distorting the block.... 1990 Jeep Cherokee 2 Dr. Big-3 in 0g on Stock Alt. Those are cool I did one using a Omaha Steak Company shipping ice chest, a car deep cycle and a Harbor Freight solar panel while I was up taking care of my Grandfather. I took it to the Sac Raceway and watched the drags (from the pit area for those of you familiar with the track) and had cold drinks and good tunes, it was a good day. 2 15"s Re-coned with a Custom re-cones with DD 9500 coils, Rockford Fosgate T1500-1bd, Designated Aux. 190 amp Alt@ 15.5 volts, Duel High Rate Aux. Batts. Doing 143+'s (current box and subs haven't been metered), 1st place in 129.9 Bass Race and a 2nd and a 3rd in NW DB Drag in the last two shows. Only gone two 2 show total thought, so not to bad
