difference in box design?

i bought a vented box from a friend who works at a car audio shop. Im not sure of the exact specs but i am pretty sure its around 2.7cu ft and ported to 38hz

this is the design for it

im running an Orion HCCA 12, faced side to side in my trunk (i drive an 02 Sonata).

what i am wondering is if there is a more efficient box design? im very pleased with this design but if i can make a box that can give a higher spl i want to do it. also is it true about the orions falling apart or whatever from sitting on the side? i noticed the kid who made mine has his orions facing up in his trunk. i have had the sub for about 6 months and it hasnt failed me yet, but i am jw.

just looking at the orientation of the sizes there, that port is not enough for that sub. if you havent built that box i wouldnt waste the wood soing it until the port area is fixed
