my box was software modeled by down4sound. Its a 1.7 cf ported box tuned to 30 hz. im using a 10" American Bass sub with a Fs of 34hz. this box for this sub is down tuned by 4hz. Is that considered more bad or more good or not a concern at all? Im just trying to get on the right page generally speaking using the above model.

how well does a 30hz tuned box pair with a 34hz peak performance sub.

The sub parameters don't mean much alone, they are meant to be used by software along with the specs of your box and the listening environment.

The following is your sub with the box specs given and inside an average sized sedan car at 30 Hz in red and 34Hz in yellow.

That box design is made to maximize the deeper bass output as possible even when the sub cannot be great at the low end bass due to it's low Xmax of 12mm.

That big peak at tuning is due to the too large net volume of 1.7 cubes. There is no difference in output in this case just different peaking frequency. Still higher tuned boxes (with otherwise same specs) tend to seem louder to the ear because of human hearing.

I understand what youre saying more than i understand that graph.

The way Im looking at that graph is, I need to look for a sub with a Fs of 30hz or perhaps cut the hole bigger for a 12" sub and re-tune? or should I generally be ok?

lastly, would I keep my subsonic filter to 30hz or keep it nearer to 34hz with the setup I have?

What to do next depends on what you want, if you want louder but still low a sundown X 10 would work just fine in that enclosure. If you want a 12" it would need to be one that works well in relatively small enclosures, for example a DC Audio 12" will work just fine in that box, if you want better sound quality an image dynamics IdMAX 12 would work there.

You need to be clear about what you want that you are not getting.

thank you for this info. I am after sound quality but something that can handle my Taramps 3000.1 MD amp. If i could find it, Id like a high powered 10" sub dual voice 4ohm, thats got 3000w or less RMS and has a low Fs around 30hz not for SPL but SQ.

You will find something like you want in a 12" size but not in 10" size from brands like Fi car audio or SSA which are (SQL type of subs).

The most powerful 10" that comes to mind is the DC Audio XL SPL (2200WRMS) but as the name suggest is a SPL oriented daily sub.

nice! im looking up those other subs you listed a couple comments back.

Hey what software did you use in that comment where you show that graph with my parameters inputted in it to show its peak curves?

Bassbox pro 6, it's not expensive but it has a learning curve, without a physics background it isn't even worth getting, in the end you have to know what you are doing it just solves a lot of math for you.
