Midbass? I don't get it.

I've always heard people talking about midbass and stuff like that but I've never understood what kind of speaker it is? Is it just a small subwoofer or can you tune a normal mid speaker to play only low notes? I'm lost. Someone fill me in please.

i guess you could say its a small subwoofer that plays higher frequencies...say around 80hz and up...maybe less..... It is good for playing higher bass notes that subs cant quite play effectively. and it also takes the work load off of your mids so they can do their job better.

about 80 hz to 500 hz is "midbass", any higher is mids and any lower is bass, although a good midbass can play well beyond that (so that when it is playing that, the output is very flat)

look at a 3 way setup, theres usually a tweeter (highs) a mid (usually 3-6 inches, designed to play from about 5000 where the tweeter loses off to 500-800 where the midbass picks up) and a midbass, usually 5.25-8in

what would be a good midbass driver for cheap? I'm not doing competition stuff here, maybe something around $60-75?

just get a set of components, the only time you buy just a midbass driver is when youre crazy and build your own component sets, or blew one out and need a replacement.
