LiL PiNoY Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 i just got my car back and at the shop when i started it didnt make any sound. when i got to where i needed to go i stayed for an hour and left then i started my car up and it made a loud squeal noise for like 2 seconds. i drove it around for like 5 mins so it could warm up and re started the car and it didnt do it. just went outside to test it and it did it again. is it possible that the cold weather had something to do with it (35 degrees) or is the belt just loose?

sully Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 if it is a HO alt you might just be out of luck, I never could get my Focus to stop doing that even after new belt tensioner and two new belts (yes they were the right size) If the pulley is too small you don't get enough belt wrap and when the car sits for a while your alternator has to top off the battery so there is a load on the alt right when you start the car. I'm sure some of the Alternator manufacturers will chime in with a fix for you but I just put a stock alt back on and pulled out the system since it is my extra car and I don't really need one in there anyway. 2003 Ford F-150 Reg Cab layin body on 26's 2003 Tahoe 3/5 drop on 26's with a 408cid Supercharged engine. 2011 Camaro 2SS 2005 VW GTI Stage II ECU, CAI, 3" turbo back exhaust, FMIC, lowered 2" on some plastidipped 18's 2003 Hayabusa lowered, stretched, cams, nitrous and custom paint
LiL PiNoY Posted November 28, 2009 Author Report Posted November 28, 2009 well if its something i have to deal with will it hurt anything?
Guest DC Power Kyle Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 It CAN glaze the alternator pulley which makes it harder to grab the belt. I would just tighten the belt a little bit more and see if that helps.
