On a budget of $500, the setup Marlo said is probably one of the best setups you can get. If you don't want to use Type-R's though, you can find other subs of the same quality. You can check out AQ subwoofers, they have a good price on them for how well they are built. Also could check into Fi SSD's, they are a pretty good price too IMO. Just remember you aren't stuck with only Type-R's, there are tons of other subs of same quality/better quality for same price, or a little bit more.
