tejcurrent
I picked up a Fluke 36 yesterday and was able to do a few quick tones. I'm not going to post a list of the testing I did- it was about 1/2 an hour in total, just a few frequencies to try to get some feedback- and give people considering AB products something to look at. Also I wanted to see what sort of power I'm getting. The amp is rated 10,000rms @ 2 ohms, I'm running the subs (dual 2, really 1.7) at 1.7 nom. It also should do 5000 @ 4, and 2500 at 8. My alpine H/U goes up to 35, I tested at 23 unless otherwise specified, and vehicle voltage was around 14.8. There is a lot left in this amp- I compared how it did at a volume of 23 to a volume of 25 just to show how big a difference there is between those two settings. Test Electrical: 380 amps peak alternator output, 3 D3100s Test results:Frequency | AC voltage | AC Amperage | Ohm load | Output in Watts. Volume of 23 - DC voltage = 14.8v 30hz | 131.02 | 28a | 4.679 Ohms | 3668.78 Watts Volume of 25 - DC voltage down to 13.5 30hz | 152 | 31.2 | 4.87 Ohms | 4744.15 Watts. Volume 23 - DC Voltage 14.9 32hz | 138 | 25.5 | 5.41 ohms | 3520.15 Volume 23 - DC voltage 14.4 40hz | 130.08 | 16.5 | 7.8836 = 2147.3 <--------- Highest rise from my testing. I gained over 1000 watts, even at a higher impedance by turning the volume up 2 notches. That's about 29% gain by my admittedly shoddy math. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there for responses. Any comments, advice, criticism, math corrections welcome. I'm thinking when I start running my setup for SPL I'll run at 1 ohm daily since my rise seems plenty high enough. tejcurrent XS Power T3

tejcurrent
Big thanks to ISO by the way for posting the how to test and math info. I used it a long time ago and forgot; I was really happy to find it stickied in this section. tejcurrent XS Power T3
Boon
Are you sure you're not running it into clipping? The AC voltage will go up really really fast once the wave starts to square off... 10.x volts fo' life!
tejcurrent
I have no way of being 100% sure since there isn't an o-scope within hours, but I know nothing gets warm after 1/2 an hour of testing. It doesn't sound ugly in any way, and 2 days ago I drove about 45 minutes at a volume of 24 (right between my low and high testing points) listening to music with a lot of steady bass lines (like thug motivation 101 and a bunch of decafs songs). Got home, walked to the back and the subs were cold as the moment I turned them on, amp was not warm. Unfortunately I can not give you a 100% definite answer to your question about clipping, but if I was competing I would feel safe cranking things up a lot more before having problems. There is a very noticeable difference between 23 and 25, I just stop because I don't want to see my voltage below 14 for any length of time. I figure if things don't heat up after that long things should be in an acceptable range. If you know of a way to check clipping any better than I've listed please let me know, but without an o-scope I'm going by ear and ensuring nothing is getting warm. tejcurrent XS Power T3
