Checking your ohm load with DMM

Do you take the DMM, turn it to the "Ohm" section, and put the probe tips onto the +/- on the amp?

I thought this was the way to do it, but I just wanted to ask on here to make sure.

you should always power down the amp and isolate the subwoofers... or you might get resistance from the amp... i do it like you listed above though... also you can touch your leads together while in the ohm section and see how much resistance your leads have... you should subtract that from the resistance you get while testing your subwoofers... that will give you a more accurate number

Okay well when I did that the other day, I had the vehicle on and everything, but no music playing at all (was on AUX and iPod was turned off). And I hooked it up like I said above, and it read out 0.8, so does that mean the amp is running at .8 ohms?

You need to find resistance between your leads like treo described... my leads show .3 resistance and read .8 at the amp for my .5 load.

Okay so when I go to check the leads I disconnect the woofer and everything right? and what it reads out is the resistance right?

btw it is impossible to mess your system up by checking the ohm load with a multimeter.

not trying to be an asshole but a guy with a big system like yours, i would assume you would know how to use something as simple as a multimeter.

Ok I'm confused by your first post but you should be checking the speaker wire coming from your subs to the amp, not sticking your DMM into the terminals to check the ohm load because then you'd be finding the resistance inside the amp, not the load the amp is seeing from the subs.

Disconnect your subs and put the leads from the DMM onto the + and - of the sub wire.

i pulled out my dick in class many of times and had it shown. get over it bitch...stupid open legged hairy beavered bitch...

going over rms = smaller box, under rms = bigger box...

Low voltage doesn't blow amps. That's a myth.

A router that does the sub holes makes rounded edges also?

if your subs are connected to the amp and you put the dmm on the amp terminals, youll find the resistance of your subs

As long as the vehicle is off i get the same reading whether subs are connected and touching the amp screws or disconnected and touching the wires. Like said before just take the two leads on your dmm, touch them together and depending on how good of quality meter it is you should get somewhere between .2 and .4 or so. Then touch probes to speaker wires or terminals (with vehicle off) and then subtract from that the reading you got from touching the leads together..

Since you said .8 im guessing you are running at .5

What coils do you have on your sub and is it wired parallel or series?

I know it's not possible to mess anything up using a DMM, and I know how to use a DMM, I just wasn't positive on checking ohm loads, seeing resistance, etc. So I asked a simple question about it.

The speaker wire was still connected to the amp when I checked. Just put the probes on top of the speaker terminals.

The sub is d2. Wired in parallel
