I use a knob just so when I pull up to my neighborhood I can turn the bass down without turning my music down. Well that an also when I listen to some of the rap I like, it doesn't have clean bass so that allows me to do the same thing, turn the bass down without worrying about my music going low.

That's a good question.

Back when I had one amp, I would use a combo. of the knob and the subwoofer level on my HU. Now I have multiple amps, with different bass knob connections so I just use the HU.

I would think the proper way would be to put in a track with a sine wave of like 60 or 45 hz or so and adjust your HU up all the way until you begin to get clipping- then back off. Then do the same with your bass knob until you get clipping and boom- you know what to not go past. You pretty much need an O-Scope for that though.

Or.... set the knob all the way up and adjust backward with an O-Scope to make sure you have no clipping. That way you can be sure that with everything all the way up, your signal is clean. Someone check me, but isn't that how Steve has the Tahoe set up?
