Noobtastic14
I would like to take this moment to point out that THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "SQ" AND "SOUNDS GOOD" in good SQ you don't even notice the sub because its blended so perfectly with the midbass and midrange. In SQ you cant figure out where the speakers are- everything is so perfectly staged it doesn't sound likes its coming from any one direction. Its as if you close your eyes and each speaker is perfectly placed an equal distance from your ear in any direction (including sub, but its tricky ) NOW- "sounds good" is where the bass hits hard (not to hard) but just hard enough to work with the mids and highs. It still sounds balanced but is bass heavy. There is a pretty effortless transition between frequencies and is generally broad and flat in response. "spl" gets into a tighter frequency band with a higher peak around the desired frequencies. while playing these frequencies the sub bass may very easily overtake the front stage and become the sole audible highlight of the car. and why are we discussing GM? -Drew Quote I am a United States Military Arts and Crafts Professional. Neel
Here is a quote from another forum that sums the answer up perfectly.... " Here is my take on your question: SQ = Sound Quality The division of 12 volt (mobile audio) that focuses on accurate reproduction of music, with a focus on detailed separation of instruments and vocals with attention to the musicians physical sound stage location(imaging and depth of the performers of the musical instruments while either on stage or in the studio). SPL = Sound Pressure Level The division of 12 volt that focuses on the volume of the bass frequencies. " Quote Too Much Stuff to list .
Blackedout
Nicely said Drew... SQL is a made up term. There is no such thing as sound Quality above ~139.9 .... Based off what drew said, however; there is such thing as SQL ... Which simply put means an overall good sounding system. A combination of Amplified highs and still a nice amount of sound pressure. The highs remain loud and clear, while the bass doesn't drown them out. Quote Trunk Build Log
Noobtastic14
Thanks Jdirty the confusion between "SQ" and "sounds good" has always annoyed me. -Drew Quote I am a United States Military Arts and Crafts Professional.
