I got questions, who has answers?

Hey I am at a crossroads right now, I wanted a pounding little system last year so I bought a Orion HCCA 15.2 ($680 woofers ect), a Critical Mass UL-A2500 2500W RMS ( got a good deal for $2600 new sealed from a buddy getting divorced). My buddy donated his 5CF box which seemed to fit the bill. 4 Gel cell batteries ($140 each), and 220 amp alternator(140 $ebay), big 3, 0Ga, and alot of time later.... Anyways the system pounded, hell it pounded my brain right out of my head. It was broken in for 12 hours by a reputable local guy, set up proper, filled, nonfilled, and then I realized that I wanted more "definition" to my bass so I switched the HCCA over to a sealed enclosure ( both filled and unfilled, and deadener inside the box). It still didn't give me what I want. I got really downhearted and pulled everything but the front end out and it's all sitting in my office under my desk. I am going to sell off the sub and amp for sure, and already have access to a Zapco c2k9X new in box a buddy has. I am now considering the subbage and looking for advice on a pair of 15" subs that are good for some bass, but most notable for SQ, reproduction. Also would a ported box degrade the SQ side more than a sealed box? I am looking at the following possibly:

• 2 or 3 12" IDMAX Image dynamics D4
  
• 2 15" FI Q subs
  

Which would work best, or is there another brand to consider for what I want, not looking for SPL ( thought I was), I am more concerned for SQ and the occasional blow out the windows effect( mild spl 140??). I know it's alot to ask but any help would be appreciated. If it matters it's all going into my work/fun Caravan 2000 vintage. SO far I have had the privelage to borrow some DD(9515?), eclipse(??), kickers(12w7), MTX's(9500?),RF ( T1,T2) and they aren't the hot ticket for me. I want the best of both worlds, and price is not so much of an object ( within reason, single father here and I already have both pockets in the system). HELP!

I was impressed by the Image Dynamics stuff years ago when I used to sell it. They like sealed boxes but if you design the ported box correctly it will have more output and you won't sacrifice much sound quality. Don't have any personal experience with the Fi Q's but have heard good things about them as well.

Don't be scared off by ported boxes for SQ, You can build them to sound Great. I had a pair of Elemental Designs 130v.2's in a 3 cu.ft. ported box and they Sounded Amazing. DD 9515's are great sounding subs in the right enclosure. I've never heard a Fi woofer in my life. (I know sheltered life life here in Iowa) IDMAX's are great SQ subs. But if your looking ofr mid 140's you can't go wrong with some Elemental Designs Subs. They are Amazing sounding, get low and loud and take smaller ported boxes. www.edesignaudio.com I know there are lots of other brands out there but they are worth a shot. Thanks for all the info so far, I did hear a set of DD 9915 ( i think would have to check). They were what I would call ok. I LOVED the Focals I heard but not the best longevity on these. I am leaning twords the IDMAX's. Anyone else feel free to chirp in. As for box I am still looking for people with carnel knowledge of the IDMAX's in a ported box. Anyone?
