gene Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Alright boys heres the situation. I bought a Sony Xplod CDX-GT710 from my buddy. And when I went to install it, my car had a different wiring harness. So I'm off to buy a 16 pin wiring harness. Heres the problem; I have NEVER wired up anything. So, Im trying to save some money by installing it myself rather than paying Cartoys $55 an hour. When I install the new wiring harness would I just cut all the wires off the back of the old harness, then tie them together with the new wires on the new harness by matching colors? Or what? Should I just have them install it? ...Sorry about the newbie question. Just lookin for some help. Thanks all.
cqtama Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 the wire harness you buy will be labeled (font right speaker, power, ground ect..) usually the colors match up with the radio harness but i always double check with the owners manuel on the radio. there is also a list of the colors and what they are for on the package of the new harness. i like to use the screw on wire caps, you twist together the 2 wires and then screw the cap to the top. its not that hard. just take your time and pay attention to what your conecting R.I.P '01 blazer you treated my ears well until your transmission blew up. gene Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Well the harness Im buying is for the part that the CD player plugs into, so there aren't any labels, but there are labels on the back of the cd player. Hmm, I'll try it out myself and if i can't do it I'll just have them put it in.

Wastehog Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 If you are going to do it your self, make damn sure you wrap every wire, with a cap, in black electrical tape. You probably should crimp your wires, but you are a novice, so I'll let the caps slide. Just be sure they are on good and tight. You don't want to have to pull your HU because a speaker isn't working do ya? So spend the extra few minutes cappin them and taping them.
