If you want to go based on JUST cone area...the 15s barely have the 3 12s beat. If you are going to go with either of those, I would do the 3 12s. Just as Ray pointed out, 2 15s on 1.2k RMS, or 3 12s on 3k RMS? 3 12s hand down for me.

I agree, almost 3x the power and slightly less cone will def be louder.

3 12's would have more of an appeal i think, but depending on your type of subs you use you might have issues with ohm loads and what not unless you are running an amp to each individual sub. I think the 2 15's would be just as equally nice if everything is setup and build right.
