95_1500
Well my dads '73 stingray has the L82 350 which came stock with 9:1 and he never ran a 16 volt battery... Also my 95 Chevy K1500 with the 5.7L 350 LO5 engine has 9.5 : 1 and before my VCM i cranked at 14.9 on the coldest day of the year... I dont know a lot about compression ratios and you dont have to take my word for it but damn 6 minutes of google searching and i came up with that... And I never said anything about his alt draining the battery. I said the battery could be bad so the starter is easily draining it THEREFORE causing the alt to charge at an extremely high voltage, it was just a theory that his battery could be bad or going bad. If you wanna continue this bitching match then please continue but thank you for that small useless lesson in cranking "high" compression engines. Back to the topic on hand.. That duralast isnt the best of batteries so he might want to disconnect it completely overnight and check its resting voltage in the morning... Once again the bad battery was just a thought EDIT: one more thing, starters pull their current from the battery to turn the engine over which my resting voltage is 12.9-13.1ish, far LESS than 16 volts Edited March 10, 2010 by 95_1500 Quote Original Build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=24095
Boon
1. I'd like to see you turn over a high compression engine like say a 9:1 on LESS then 16 volts. 2. how in hell is an Alt draining his battery (maybe his starter but not the alt) Turning over an engine takes amps, not volts... and where do you plan to get this 16v from seeing as a lead-acid battery under a load will only output 12.8v and since the engine isn't started, the alt isn't doing anything? Besides all that, I know loads of people starting high comp engines with batteries the size of a Kinetic HC600... Quote 10.x volts fo' life! kmalinich
same thing happens on my bonneville with my sense wire mod on my alt. i'm always at 15.6v when it's cold.... it was -2 degrees F here and i hit 16v (once).. i was pretty excited to play my system .. then i realized.. i can't bump in 0 degree weather. and of course by the time the woofers are warmed up and the car is warmed up so i can play.. back down to 14.8v again..
