luckymike16 Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Is the klmx bad wire or would i be okay to run 3k rms on klmx 0g?
Blackedout Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 KLMX isn't bad. KLMX will not handle 3K RMS. KLMX = CCA = Copper Clad Aluminum Fleks = OFC = Oxygen Free copper. Big difference? CCA is 36% more resistant than OFC. Meaning 0 gauge KLMX is closer to a 2 or 4 gauge quality, OFC, wire. Trunk Build Log

I figure you missed what I said in the other thread... 36% more resistant meaning the difference between 0.3 ohms PER KILOMETER and 0.4 ohms. In other words, a real world difference of sweet FA. 10.x volts fo' life!
luckymike16 Posted March 14, 2010 Author Report Posted March 14, 2010 Yeah i figured thats why no one uses it really but do you know any other cheap alternatives?

Your a lowlife kid. I bet your mother wants to kill herself for not swallowing your ass.
Blackedout Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 I'm not going to say I'm right now... http://caraudiomag.com/articles/copper-wire-vs-copper-clad-aluminum-wire-wire-warnings I think the difference is, Red navi, you're running batteries in the back... Meaning you're pulling from a source, and that source is pulling what your alt can generate.... Not 300+ amps on a single run of CCA 0 gauge. Boon, given your credentials... I always trust your info. But where did you get that info from? You're saying almost 3000 feet of CCA and OFC, side by side is only a .3 ohm difference? Given the tests car audio mag did with thermo imaging cameras, the difference was pretty significant as far as heat goes.... Almost 20 degrees.... and that was with just a 20 foot length of each. I'm very flattered... but yeah, the resistance of a 1km long piece of 0 gauge OFC is about 0.33 ohms. So a 36% increase on that is gonna make it about 0.44 ohms Makes about 0.125v of difference at the end of it when you're pulling 250A through it. Which makes for about 30w of heat to be dissipated by the cable, so naturally it would be a bit warmer. Real world difference is gonna be fairly tiny though. I bet most people are losing more than 0.125v at high current through dodgy crimps/soldering and poor grounding. EDIT: I wouldn't try to run a 3kw off amp on a single run of 0 gauge anyway but that's just me. I try to allow 1 run per 2.5kw maximum. 10.x volts fo' life!
thebiggmann12 Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 with that much power isnt he gonna wanna run at least 2 runs anyways?
Blackedout Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Wish I woulda asked out last week when I chose OFC over CCA for my 3kw setup... Live and learn I guess... I got some quality wire at least. ;-) Trunk Build Log
