the only reason i can think of that its arching is because its not fully contacting (touching) the alt stud.

Yep, or touching the stud and the case of the alt (direct ground). Could you have over torqued something on your alt stud? If so and the isolator between the alt stud and the alt case is compromised, then you will have a direct short.

okay so now it isn't touching the case. when i tried to hook it up to my battery, it blew all 3 80a fuses and arched again. now what?

when i did the big 3 i was in the school auto shop. my teacher told me to take off the - terminal on the battery then attach the alt + power wire to the + battery "or else its gonna arc like hell"

edit: he then proceeded to show me that the alt + stud is hot (12v on it) all the time as long as the battery is hooked up.
