right now i have memphis Mclass 6.5 ways and 6x9 2 ways in my stock locations in my 2008 impala and i was thinking of switching to the polk db series 6.5 comps and 3 way 6x9s. is it worth the money? like will it sound that much better or louder and how are the polk speakers? they have a higher sensitivity than the memphis so does this mean they will be louder given the same power?

Are you currently using the Mclass coaxles, or components (with the silk tweeters)?

If the nicer Mclass component series, you wont gain much anything at all. Memphis makes some good stuff!

Polk... Its not what it once was many years ago, reminds me of a brother to MB Quart. Highend SQish speaker companies that sold out.

Besides, polk db is the entry level and not nothing to impressive there but overly bright harsh tweeters.

The way I often see it, Going from a 2-way 6by9 to a 3-way 6by9 dont really improve sound or make it any much louder. What you are most likely doing is going from a 2-way 6by9 with a decent tweeter, to a 3-way 6by9 with 2 shittier tweeters. This holds true to other companies such as The Alpine Type S line (2 tweeter shitty tweeter coaxles) and The Alpine Type R line (with 1 better tweeter coaxles).

So 3 way speakers in general are 9 times out of 10 a marketing gimmick.

The only "real" 3 way speaker setups are the components you buy that have a midbass, midrange, and tweeter.

2 tweeters crossed over at the same or close to same frequency is technically a 3-way by definition, but not by ear or sound.

yeah i have the coaxles right now. the thing is i want a component set up frony and if i switch companys i wanna do it all the way around i dont want memphis 6x9s and some other brand comp set. and yeah my friend saw my 2 way 6x9s with just the 1 tweeter and was like why no 4 ways or something im like you my friend are a n00b sometimes less is more. then he heard them and was like man those get loud. so i know 3 ways or 4 ways are not alwayd better than a 2 way i just was stating they were 3 ways. i might just get the memphis component set its just the Mclass one is SO expensive but it might come out to the same thing if i replace ALL my speakers anyway
