Quick Big 3 Question - Grounding To Alternator Bracket?

Recommended Posts

yeah it's on 2001 LS 2 door blazer that i just started working on. originally my plan was to just throw in a little bass to make the sound more realistic but then seeing all the vids people around here are posting... it makes me want to go a bit bigger. next step is the alternator, battery & an alarm system. i figured i better get the big 3 out of the way now before the upgrades. (i'm really diggin' those Iraggi)

as for the big 3, i was hoping to keep the wires short & close to the battery, that's why i was hoping to attach my first from the ground terminal to the bolt on the front of the bracket. My second wire would be about a foot and a half long that would run from the ground terminal to the frame just in front of the battery. i can't quite tell because there are a bunch of hoses in the way... but is the alternator bracket attached to the motor or the frame? i would imagine it is on the motor but there is still quite a bit i have to learn.

my alternator bracket bolt looks a bit rough so i'm prolly gonna have to bust out the dremel & the wire wheel attachment to clean it up & make a nicer connection. Originally i was planning on just piggy backing the zero gauge on the original wires from the ground terminal to the block (then attaching one from the battery terminal to the frame), but it appears to go underneath the motor & there is a panel i would have to remove to get at it. thats where the saving a little time & saving money by running shorter wires comes in.

Your alt bracket is attached to the motor. Do like you said, clean the bracket where you connect the wire, i would suggest on that bracket the bolt thats on the driver side, the other one has the metal bushing that pressure fits the alt when you tighten the bolt. Run from alt bracket to batt negative then batt negative to frame.

ok, 1 more quick question. i was speaking with a friend of mine at work & he said if i grounded my amp to the seat belt bracket, that i should add a line of 0 gauge to the body also. he says that the bracket is attached to the body versus the frame. any truth to this? should i add a line to the body as well?

there should be a bolt on the top rear of your alt. It may just be a threaded hole of you font have the thin sheet metal cover. I have used that location SEVERAL times on the 4.3L/5.7L engine and it works great. Clean all that corrosion off first.

lower tuning is just hard. I was surprised how loud 145 sounds at 35hz, and how quiet 145 sounds at 50hz.

DONT USE THE BRACKET. Very thoroughly Scrape all the paint of the floor pan in convenient area for you. The most important thing is that the point of contact is very clean and shiny. Than use a self taping sheet metal screw of the proper size for the ring terminal and shoot it in to the sheet metal. Be careful not to strip your hole.
