I'd get a good wiring kit from audio savings. At least 4 gauge so you might not have to redo that before long. Then I'd look on craigslist for some deals.

I snagged a pile of starter subs/boxes for $100 today. If you were local I'd say come check it out.

I know none of this is killer gear but look at this craigslist find I got today:

It's a 2000 Nissan Altima. I've decided to go with the Kenwood bundle.

if you're going for sound quality, with the Kenwood bundle, go with a SEALED box.

I've had Kenwood subs before and they sound like crap in a ported box. Even a perfectly tuned ported box sounded like shit. Not trying to dis anyone here, but speaking from experience.

I have a pair of Kenwood 1800 Watt amps (KAC-9104D) Class D amp that are currently running at 1ohm stable capped at 900watts RMS. And, for anyone wanting to argue this point about it being 900 watts RMS, it actually does do about 700 watts RMS. For an amp you can grab new for about $150, its a good buy. These are pushing two Infinity 12" 1252w Subs in a sealed enclosure. Pounds hard. Since I listen to a lot of Metal and Rap/Hip-hop, and a little techno, I can tell you the sealed box suites my need and sound preferences.

With the kenwood bundle, I wouldn't expect to really rumble anything. To me, it's how it sounds at your preferred listening level both inside the car and out.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THE AMP KIT FROM WAL-MART!

It's not quality cable, the RCA plugs are plastic covered in metal and there is very little insulation. The Power and Ground cables are more insulation than copper. One Thing I DO know with 100% certainty (An I'm sure many will agree), is skimping on the wiring will set you up for crappy sound. That amp should suit your needs for now, but like previously mentioned, some have more than a $tack on just wiring. There is a reason for this; plus you don't want to have to rerun all the wire should you upgrade the amp and subs later.

Additionally, if you find you want/need more boomy bass - without changing the amp and subs, you could go with a bandpass box. Not my favorite, but it is a proven way to get more out of less.

im lookin to get rid of my system in about two months.im upgrading.its 2 12 inch audiobahn high excursions and a 1200 watt power acoustic gothic series amp and a rt mobile sound systems sealed box.ive had it for 5 1/2 years and still works great!!the only damage is some chrome plating is chipping off.when i get rid of it ill sell cheap!!!definently better than kenwoods shitty crap!!heres a vid its on a flip cam so the sound isnt good but its a great starter system
