UnderLoK Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Long story short amps are frying in my truck on startup. I thought I had the issue resolved but then just this morning it happened again... I'm looking for a Mr. Wizard (person or shop) near me (I'm in Detroit, but will travel) that I could bring the truck to so he/she can look it over and tell me WTF is wrong with it because obviously the issue is above my pay grade. I've checked everything that I can think of and can't find the cause. I've replaced my relay, my grounds (yes they are to frame), redid all the wiring for my relay, checked for voltage spikes on both the power line and remote and still the issue remains. It could be something completely stupid that I can't see or it could be something far more complex that I would never have a chance in hell of figuring out. The worst part is it appears to be random... The one commonality however is the fact that one of my alts had a regulator fail and once I received the replacement is when all of this started, The replacement lasted a couple weeks, maybe 3 max, and the regulator failed again (like last time got on the freeway and BAMO alt died)...This time however the other one has bearing issues as well... I'm aware that when a regulator fails there could be a massive voltage spike and while that was what I was blaming, today was the factory alt so that went out the window (unless it was already damaged). I just need a real seal of approval before another amp powers up in my truck. One other note, on start up (no MLA or VCM or anything) the truck kicks out 15.43v and settles from there. This is an 07 Trailblazer SS (LS2) 2 plug with a DR44 alt. While these numbers might be an issue for the DAT that just blew, the XXX's can take 18v so I wouldn't think that was it. If anyone out there knows where I should go or who I should talk to (phone would be better than email or pm) let me know. I'm done guessing at causes and fixing things (while they did need some cleanup) that didn't resolve the issue. While I would love to try this that and the other, honestly, I need an answer man. I'm running an SPST relay (4 plug) with the diode in reverse bias (stripe to remote), I'm almost 100% sure that is right, but after looking at wires for hours on end it all looks the same and it can't hurt to ask...
