My brother has 95 I believe lumina and it idles too high and when he shifts to reverse it goes in hard, I googled around and found what I thought could fix it but I forgot what it was. It's a 3.1 V6. Tranny fluid is topped off. And when he idles his temp goes a little over half.

he blow his intake gasket already?

Don't think he did it runs perfect. The idle isn't that high but it doesn't seem normal, the temp doesn't go up too high either we just think since its idling high it's causing higher temp.

So, let me see if im right, shifts hard into reverse? Higher idle? Temp. raise?

Does it shift hard into any other gear while your going down the road? Have a whine sound to it a bit? Ever die?

Just does it reverse,no whine, runs like a champ.

throttle body gasket might be leaking causing a high idle, or the idle air control motor (iac) might be going out. as for the going hard into reverse, has he checked his upper motor mounts that connect by the top of the radiator? if the bushings in those go bad they can make the car go into gear hard at first.

Will check that out he needs to get a tester since his check engine light is on that would tell us more.

Anyway to see if the throttle body gasket is leaking or do you just replace it and hope for the best? And I'll check those motor mounts out tomorrow.
