how do you get 16 volts?

Recommended Posts

Ok folks, I'm about to do a major amp upgrade and I am considering an amp or two that like 16 volts (as well as others). What are the ways to do this voltage raise? I have never thought of doing this voltage upgrade until very recently, so any info would be cool, even if it's a link or something. Also, how do regular amps and the vehicle's stock electrical system react to the higher voltage? thanks, Wilson

i think an MLA module thats the only thing coming to mind. i just know for the alternators they gotta be higher than the batteries so the potential difference in voltage it can charge

I don't fuck around. I go from zero to I hope you die in less than 2 posts

If you want to run your amps at 16v you will need a HO alternator, voltage regulator/control module, 14v batteries. You cannot charge 12v batteries at 16v. Hope this helps.

i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?

You make it seem like it's that easy OP. I mean, you got to upgrade your alternators, get some huge batteries, and multiple runs of 0/1. I would think that's what you'd have to do FIRST.

VCM and are you looking at 14v batts and a 16v charging system or 16v batts and an 18v charging system 14v batts ok on stock 16v batts need special stuff or you will get the magic smoke

Edit: 18v charging system is not for the......... how do I say this w/o coming across rude, well lets just say if you have to ask dont do it.

Lol exactly right Andrew. Which is why I'm sticking to 12v :(
