WINISD data

using winisd. made my calculations, i'm sure its not 100% exact but according to the graph...how good or bad is this?

SUb is Kicker L7 12". Box is 3.3 ft3 not including sub and port displacement which i think should be close to 3.24ft3 and tuned to 34hz using two 2" Precision Ports.

So what do you guys think? Any recommends?

Personally I think you could do better. It seems to peak pretty bad, you want it flatter if you are playing music. If you are competing and will only be playing burps then that would be ok. Just my opinion though.

Ok thanks. I'm not competing, just daily driver. But what should i do though? change the port tuning or what?

Also, how much do you think this sound would change once its in a small trunk, like would it change its peak frequencies or what?

In the graph..is this looking to be too loud at 60hz? I'm afraid if i lower the tuning too much, it won't be no better than my current sealed, but i dunno.

I don't really have enough power to do Sealed, i mean my sub is currently in a sealed box and its just not very loud at all...can't even hear it outside the car and with rock music, theres very little bass.

but yeah, i'll be listening to rock music with this...i want it to be loud, but not a one note fart cannon....any help?

try to reduce port area or increase box size... usually that will flatten out our curve...

but you say you listen to rock... if i where you id build a tline... great flat response imo...

i'm already at max of kicker's recommended size for vented box. a Tline box would be waayyy too big. i have a honda civic for crying out loud. lol

port area is two 2" precision ports...can't reduce them any further. 4" is as short as they get which gives me 34hz. Any longer and it lowers frequency, i'd guess any shorter would make its peak louder at a higher frequency.

I'm gonna try Bassbox pro. and see what its graph shows me. but i can't find xmax specs for my sub.

ok i used the program. it says i have 25.20hz tuning. port area 6.28 inches, port area range 40-57 in2.

so whats my answer again? i don't get it.

ok that info you just gave me means that your box is tuned to 25hz (way too low for a daily driver like you're trying to accomplish) and the port area is right where i thought it was, ~6sqin. you need to make that number ANY number between 40-57sqin. you can accomplish this by making the ports bigger. yes you will have to make them longer but you're supposed to do that. aim for around 33hz or so.

Yeah, I have winISD but I never use it cause it's a pain in the ass. Use bassbox pro as it is easier to use. Don't be afraid to tune low or make the box bigger, in fact, the bigger you make the box the easier it is to tune low and the less likely you are to loose db. But don't make it too big, especially if you are feeding them more than they are rated. I say try flatten off that peak a bit, making it less of a fart box, especially since the peak is at ~60hz. You need way more port area, but you can check if you have enough with bassbox's vent velocity graph, try keep it at less than 15 m/s (but closer to 10 m/s is better) this will minimize port noise, but you don't have to have between 40-57sq"s, think of Steve Meade's box, it has far too little port area, but he doesn't get port noise problems. I'd be more concerned with port compression, this is changed by using a single big port instead of a few smaller ones, port compression hurts response and output.

I am building a box at the moment for a 10" that I will be using for home theater. Granted it is for home theater not car audio, it is tuned to 19.77hz with two 3.125" aero ports that are 50"s long each and it comes to ~2.25 cubes after displacement. Yes, that is big enough for 2 maybe 3 10"s but I make up for that problem by being able to play down to 15hz without a highpass filter and it plays flat down to 20hz. And that is before room gain.

i can't seem to use bassbox pro too well, i input the specs and the graph is blank..seems more complex and i dunno what to do with it.

I cant go bigger box. 3.25 ft3 is as big as can fit in my trunk and is as big as Kicker recommends for vented box. i already got the 2 inch precision ports (aero ports), i already have most of my box done, i can't waste them but i could add a couple more PP ports...would that work?

supposedly, PP ports have less port compression so adding a couple more should be ok right? i'd rather not waste the 2 i already have plus my design wont allow larger ports but i can add 2 more two inch ones on the other side of the box.
