Ported or Sealed for Alpine Type-R

Ok, so after burning the coils on my first sub (Alpine Type-R 1242), I'm wondering whether a sealed box is best, or a ported. My ported was 2.59 cubic feet, but after incorporating the size of the wood, it's 1.94 cubic feet. My first question is, which number is correct? The one incorporating the .75" press board, or the one without it?

Second question: Will it be better sealed, or ported? I know it's all opinion, but I'm a rap guy. I didn't get it for crystal clear sound quality, I got it for the notes it'll hit and overall "boom".

Help would be great. This is something I'm definitely concerned with.

well you definitely don't want to go sealed.. its for sound quality, go with ported the box is 1.94 internal right? now add the displacement of the sub and it should come out to something like 1.8, so you're good, but if you want more boom, get another apline sub, run it at 1 ohm total load at the amp, and you'll be satisified

If you want more bass then sound quality then keep ported, ported will always hit harde then sealed, sealed is just cleaner.

Just saying, but I think any sub running on 1 ohm you would be satisfied, unless its like some audiobahn or like lightning audio sub or somthing of that nature.

who the hell told you this? 1.94 of internal space sounds right if 2.54 is the outside space.

the port will take up most of the space so you have to play around with the dimensions of the box. around 2.5cuft per 12" type arghh works well i hear, tuned to about 35 or so hz. make sure you have about 37.5sqin of port for 2.5cuft too. too little and it will make a shit ton of unwanted noise

lol lighting audio sucks , audiobahn sucks... alpine kicker etc.. they're good mainstreaming subs out there in the market...and you should read the title and the post he wants more boom so if he wants more, then he should consider buying a second sub

Personally I'd go with a sealed enclosure......never really have been a fan of ported enclosures unless you have a lot of air space in your car.

Last question.

For 2 ohms, which gives me the 500 watts I want, I connect the two positive terminals and two negative terminals with the jumpers...right? And that's at the top of each terminal?
