God has Smite me.

I was listening to some Devildriver at a moderate volume, when I noticed the bass sort of cutting in and out. I pulled over and started checking things with a multimeter, and everything was fine. I checked a second time, and one of the amps just cut off. It blew a fuse, so I popped in spare. No sooner did I do that than the fuse (whole thing) turned red hot and finally blew. I disconnected from the sub to isolate just the amp, and with nothing hooked up to it it's blowing fuses. I guess that means I'll be sending it in (hopefully under warranty, I cant find the receipt but I know it's <10 months old).

Anyway, that means it's a great time to work on the enclosure and clean things up, but I'll be bass-less for a while :(

It wasn't anything I did, because the voltage stayed around 12 and none of the others seem damaged at all. Just a fluke thing I guess?

They say they might make me pay for parts/labor to repair it depending on what's wrong with it :( Hopefully it'll be completely covered. If not (like I said there was no user error there at all) I'll probably be looking towards another company in the future for amps.

Thanks fierogrande. I believe I have more pics of the comps when I was installing them- I just need to upload them. Let me take a look. I really really like them, they sounds great at high volumes, just so clear. I'll be putting in a 2nd set soon if things work out right, so I can always get pics of the other set if I can't find the ones I took of these :)

Here's a few pics. A few of how I plan on putting 2 sets in, and just a few of the speakers themselves:

I plan on fiberglassing two sets in there similar to this (The grill being so big should really make things easy- and keep things from sticking out too much).

For now I just popped everything in the factory locations. I had to cut the factory tweeter bracket a good bit, but it was easy enough.

The speaker.

I've got the box yanked out of the back now, putting in some 'glass today, and hopefully some bondo on the faceplate. Worse comes to worse I'll have that done tomarrow. Paint by wednesday/thursday, vinyl by thursday or friday. Hopefully I'll have the box back in all pretty by Monday. Hopefully the damaged amp will be back in shortly after that :(

  • 2 weeks later...

No word from Memphis yet (the shop says they haven't been notified of them receiving it yet because of Christmas :( )

So in the mean time I've dumped another 2 and 1/2 gallons of resin into the box (about 3 1/2-4 gallons total now) with a few more layers of mat.

I've started cutting the port for 32hz, I glassed the old port, and I ran a run of 1/0 for ground from the front, and I'm starting to clean up the wires in back.

Hopefully by the end of next week I'll have the box covered (vinyl) and the face plate painted. Christmas has really slowed things down, I've been working a lot more than usual, so no time for projects. I haven't even been on the forum in about 4-5 days :( Hopefully I'll be finished by my birthday, but pics next week for sure :)

BTW, christmas and my birthday are only a few weeks apart, which means atleast 1 alternator very soon.

Okay, updates. I got food poisoning or a stomach virus, one way or the other I was too sick to work. I'll have to wait till Monday to get pics because I forgot my camera, but I should have the box back in by then too (maybe tuesday). I finished the 32hz port, 7.5hx26wx16d with a 3/4 round over, fiberglassed and all the fixings. I added the 5th battery and cleaned up the wiring A LOT. Still not perfect, but much much better. I spent the alt money on getting my batteries and wiring finished up. I figure I can atleast run 1 amp well till I upgrade the alternators, but I'd hate to have to yank multiple things out later. I've got the run of 1/0 ground installed too.

Memphis should have the amp back out to me next week from what they're saying, but it might be 2 weeks. Like I said, I'll have pics monday/tuesday.

I did some more wire work, and a few other things today, so I figured I throw up some pics.

The SMD thing, soldered all the terminals:

There were plenty I missed the 1st time around, and I had to add some more grounds and the 5th battery (4 yellows in back now, 1 red under the hood).

I'm 1 inch short from fitting 5 back there, so I just went with 4. :( Anyway, I had to carpet that board holding them in place, and got the wires all cleaned up.

I wanted to clean up the amp rack, go ahead and carpet it and all. I wanted to re-wire that 4ch and the line driver too:

Throwing on the carpet:

And back in place. It still needs a few finishing touches, but it's much better now.

Tomarrow I'll be vinyling the box hopefully, so I'll see if I can't get some pics of that, and a few of the 'glass in the box.
