Questions about lifters in GM OHV 4 cyl.

Recommended Posts

Okay so I have the head off the motor cause the head gasket needed changing. But one of the rockers was really loose but the bolt was torqued to spec... I suspect a sticky lifter. So today since I have the head off I decided to pull the pushrod cover and pull the suspected sticky lifter. BTW its an exhaust lifter.

The lifter wasn't mushroomed at the bottom nor was it difficult to remove. Slide right out. The others seem the same way. Oil was present around and inside the lifter. I cleaned it up and one side near the bottom of lifter has a little and I mean little scuff on it. The little roller on the cam side spun good. Nothing broke or anything.

To get to the question, how do I check to see if a lifter is stuck in a certain position? I do have the lifter out and I can remove all of them if need be.

Derp.
