12x12" clamshell, need some help here guys.

Recommended Posts

well considering my blowthru is designed like this just sideways with 4 12's abd i peak at 35 hz i tunned it to about 31hz with doing it the way i told him to do. My box EXACTLY what it was designed to do like every other box i've done does. And yes the tunning will be affected because of the way the subs will interact with the port and the air movemen butit really seems like your trying to make this more complicated then it has to be.

perssonally i dont know what your overall volumes after displacement is but i'd try making the mouth of the port a little smaller, that'll help with tunning

Thanks Oldsboomer! :)

But is there another design that is more efficient than this? diamond or a tunnel maybe? The subs where sent from italy a couple of day ago and I got about a week until they are here so I wanna be sure that the design I use is the most efficient :)

Calculating the tuning is somewhat a challange with clamshells. The clam angles themself act like what I would call 'phantom port length' it will have an effect on the end tuning. Without running your numbers If your going for 35Hz tuning then thats a good one. Frankies was tuned around 30Hz about the same as mine.

Are you getting a good deal on those drivers? Holla at me, we can work something out ;)

Edit: noticed you got them already. Good luck!

12 12"s won't work..... doesn't sound good, especially in a clamshell. :ehh:

 Nahhh I'm just yankin' you. Listen to Boom and to Blade Ice. They have done this more than once. I had these SAME questions as you when I built my clamshell, and yes- I initially tried to use ported box design to build the box -and I did to a degree- it got me in the ball park.

I Thought I tuned my box to around 35 hz. I THOUGHT. Much much much lower. Clamshells are tricky like that, but nothing like the visual wow factor.

Tuned in!

Thanks man! I think I got to do some Trail and error as dwright27 said :) And when building a wall, either your standard ported one or a clamshell, tuning is gonna change a bit (usually drops a few hz down) so I think I gonna tune it a tad higher on the calculator and rather adjust it after if it`s needed :)

That's the way to go imo. You can always close up the port/terminus some to lower the tuning if you need to. Just don't choke it up too much- but I don't see that being a problem.

Now... get busy!!
